Transition Extreme Skatepark: Thank you for your involvement with ...

I am delighted to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the organisation?s new Chief Executive and to bring you up to date with what has been happening at Transition Extreme.?Transition Extreme stands out as a remarkable social enterprise, which has achieved a great deal since opening the doors of our iconic Centre on the 14th?April 2007 ? a credit to those whose vision inspired and delivered a world-class extreme sports centre for the region in partnership with our funders and sponsors.? ?But the vision for Transition Extreme was (and remains) that we take our brand beyond the boards and walls of the Centre and into the community as an exciting and dynamic way of supporting??the young people of Aberdeen City & Shire to make the difficult transition from childhood to adulthood a positive one for themselves, their family and community.? ?Recognition for our work to date includes:*??????Winner - Trend Life with Style Awards - Health Destination 2010*??????Winner - Trend Life with Style Awards -The Community Award 2010*??????Winner - COSLA Gold Award - Excellence in Community Planning and Local Democracy 2010*??????Winner ? I?d like to extend my sincere thanks to our sponsors and partners who have made this happen.This includes Rob Jardine at Mark 1 Signs, for all our fantastic new signage in the reception area, including the newly designed video pod wall.? This provides the centre with a fresh new look and illustrates many of the facilities we have on offer.I would also like to thank to Aberdeen City Community Service Resource Team, for providing a team of painters to redecorate the interior reception and communal areas ? a fresh start to the summer months!Website, Blogs and FaceBookWe have invested significant time and resources in upgrading our website and launching the Transition Extreme FaceBook page.?This could not have been achieved without the support of Red Evolution (Aberdeen) Limited, who have designed and built the website, providing considerable in-kind support.?Equally we appreciate the ongoing support of Foyer Graphics, who provided the initial conceptual design, which inspired our newly completed website ? we hope you agree that it?s been a huge success and something we are keen to develop further.If you?d like to access our FaceBook page, please click:?here?and add us as a friend.We also have two great informative blogs detailing what?s going on now and up and coming events.Our most recent capital development is the opening of our beginners area, in the skatepark.? This will allow children as young as 5 years old to learn and practise their skills, prior to challenging the large-scale park.? New RoutesNot to be outdone, the climbing wall continues ?to evolve, including new routes to challenge our keen rock-climbing fans.? Tim and Duncan (our General Manager and Centre Manager) are contributing their route setting skills this month to provide some challenging new styles. ?We welcome your comments, feedback and of course, challenge you to master the wall!?Spiked Undiscovered Tour:In the Climbing Centre we recently successfully hosted ?Round 3 of the?Mountaineering Council of Scotland (MCofS)?Youth Climbing Series (YCS)Keep an eye open for upcoming events via our website, facebook pages and blogs.NEW ? Capital DevelopmentYou may have read in the news recently, that we have applied for planning permission to develop the bowling green to the side of Transition Extreme.? This will be used to develop and extend our sports facilities, creating an exciting and dynamic outdoor sports park.?If you would like to review this application and show your support, representations are being accepted at?www.aberdeencity.gov.uk/web/ files/planning/comment_ planning.pdf.? Applications are been taken up until 24th?May and we would really appreciate your letters of support .? If we secure planning permission, we?d welcome your comments and involvement in shaping the park ? further details will be posted on the ?Events? page of the website.?Transition Extreme are delighted announce we are going to make use of an Aberdeen charity shop , to sell donated goods and clothing, to raise funds for the Centre.? The launch of the shop will take place on 25th?June ? only one month away, and we will be revealing more online in the run up to it opening.If you are interested in supporting us, we?d love to receive your donations (clothes, toys, ornaments), which can be left at the Transition Extreme reception.?Alternatively, we are looking for volunteers to help at the shop, so please don?t hesitate to?contact us?and offer your support.Thanks to Sheila Stevenson for running thisOur key focus and mission as a charity continues to be achieved through the range of programmes we offer.? This includes:cid:image011.png@01CC16EE.AF9EA8E0??????The Alternative Academy ? a 12-week educational programme of young people, who are currently/ at risk, of becoming dis-engaged from traditional education.? This has already achieved significant success in supporting positive destinations for graduates of the programmecid:image011.png@01CC16EE.AF9EA8E0??????The Extreme Academy ? designed as an off-shoot from Alternative Academy, this aims to provide short courses to select individuals, who can develop key skills and potentially, find themselves with long term employment.cid:image011.png@01CC16EE.AF9EA8E0??????Return to Northfield - This outreach programme provides free coaching for young people at their skate park, to support ?custodianship? of the facilities established in Northfield, which were previously at?risk of being used for negative recreational activities and associated anti-social behaviour.? This programme coaches, trains and encourages young people in skateboarding and BMX riding, provides equipment to use and encourages links with the local community centre.?
