Dangers of addiction to OxyNEO

As if addiction to narcotics wasn?t bad enough, people are now turning to prescription drugs. This underestimated form of substance abuse is fast becoming a serious threat especially in the United States. Of the many prescription meds out there, one name in particular stands out: oxycodone. Marketed as OxyContin, the drug is issued as a pain killer but dependence on it is turning into a serious concern.

As we all know, opioids are pain relievers. They?ve been around for centuries but it is only now that their deadly effects are being well-documented. What starts out as a simple step to regularly following wha the doctor prescribed has turned into an epidemic of sorts. It?s easier to get your hands on oxycodone too which only fuels the desire of addicts or those susceptible to addiction.

October of 2011 is reported to have seen ten people being arrested in Los Angeles.

The arrested persons were dealers and a part of the medical community. OxyContin is now being marketed as OxyNEO but there shouldn?t be any expectations that the drug abuse will subside.

Help for OxyNEO addiction has seen centers striving to accommodate addicts and help cure them of their problem. Like all drug-related cases, the going can be tough and not all outcomes are positive. Since OxyNEO has effects similar to heroin, you can well imagine how difficult it is to stay away from it. If someone you know is using oxycodone, you can keep an eye out for telltale signs. Check to see if they?re taking larger doses than is necessary; whether the person has been continuing to take the drug even after the prescription period is over; if the person is consulting with more than one doctor (what?s called doctor shopping so that they can get prescribed for more pills); and whether sickness is exaggerated to get more medication.

If you notice these signs, then the peson you?re watching needs help for OxyNEO addiction. Don?t wait to let them realize that they have an addiction. Intervene so that they can be saved as oxycodone addiction can lead to death. Like all abuse cases, OxyNEO addiction needs timely help and waiting for it to subside will have the opposite effect.
