CheckPoints is a new mobile app "that pays you back." It's like Foursquare for checking into places combined with a rewards program with points redeemable for gift cards to gadgets. You'll even be able to get rewards by scanning stuff at home.
There are a myriad of ways to earn points with the app. The major one is by visiting stores or restaurants and checking in; plus you can get points by scanning products in the stores. It's like Shopkick, another app that rewards you for checking in, but has many more stores you can earn points for, since Shopkick's system requires shops to install proprietary hardware.
CheckPoints will also give you rewards for playing games, downloading apps, and referring friends. A CheckPoints rep also said that a new Scan@Home feature will let you earn points without leaving your house: scan the barcodes of toothpaste, ketchup bottles, and other products in your home. (Note: I downloaded the app but don't see the Scan@Home feature yet.)
If you're going shopping or dining out, might as well earn some Amazon gift cards and other rewards for it while you're at it.
